Tuesdays With Jen – My Memoirs

My cat Jimini was old when we moved to Kentucky.  He settled in well there, but as time went by, he deteriorated more and more.  We eventually had him put to sleep at the local vets office.  It was NOT a pleasant experience.  We took him home and buried him in the back yard.  We were broken hearted.

 

I was traveling back and forth from Lexington to Pittsburgh regularly.  Keith was home alone and although he had a couple friends there, he was missing my company and probably Jimini’s as well.  We wanted to get another cat so bad.  We were poor.  We just couldn’t afford it. 

 

One day, because we had NO money for entertainment but needed to get out of the house, we visited the humane society in Lexington.  I pointed out this adorable reserved gray kitty that I thought was pretty.  Keith was drawn to the obnoxious orange tabby that was screaming for attention.  We learned that adoption fees were $99 and that included spay/neuter and a vet check.  Disappointed that we had not $99 to spare, we went home.  We talked about the crazy orange kitty and decided to try to save some money to get him.  We named him Demetrius. 

Shortly thereafter, I was sharing the story with my Mom.  She was so touched that she transferred money to our bank account just so we could get this new pet.  Thanks Mom!!!  Keith absolutely could NOT wait.  He wanted to go back to the shelter NOW!!!  I was busy working, so I sent him on his own.  “What are you going to do if Demetrius is no longer there?” I asked.  “Come home without him and we’ll go back together to look for another some other day.” He replied.  So off he went.  About an hour later I got a call.  “Demetrius is gone.”  He said.  “Oh, sorry Honey.”  I sympathetically replied.  “But there’s this other one…” (silence)  “I knew it!” I said.  “Get whichever one you want.”  He was so excited!

A while later he appeared with a box.  When he opened it up, a shy gray kitty was hiding in it.  She was clingy and hid in the first secluded spot she could find.  We named her Crystal.  The funny thing is that she was the one I had wanted him to consider in the first place, except he didn’t know that.  He said when he took her out of her cage at the shelter, she clung to him.  He needed that.  She needed someone like Keith. 

She soon became well acclimated with our home.  She woke us up in the morning.  She bit the tops of my toes on the way from our bedroom to the kitchen because she was so anxious to be fed.  She scaled the back of our couch like a gecko.  She chased ping-pong balls like crazy.  If we threw one in the bathtub, she’d run after it and emerge with it in her mouth.  How she got her jaw open that wide I have no idea, but it didn’t stay put long before it would come shooting out and she’d chase it some more.  She’d sit at the window and chirp at the squirrels and birds.  She was cute and cuddly.  We love her.

To this day, she is Keith’s cat.  Yes, she loves me, but she L-O-V-E-S Keith.  I feed her.  I treat her.  I even sometimes give her little bits of ham.  (shhhh)  But still… Keith is her favorite. 

Blessings Monday

Good morning.  I love Mondays.  Why?  Because I like to remind myself and also share with you about how blessed we are.

This morning I am counting the blessing of significant friends.  There are many…  but just to name a few…

My husband whom I love.  Meeting him gave me the desire to improve upon my life in so many ways.  He loves me as I am and for who I am.  He is patient with me in all circumstances.  He works hard to provide for us and I appreciate it.  He is my darling and I adore him.  

My friend Rene’e.  She is one of the most generous persons I know.  We grew up close to each other and have family ties.  She also loves horses and farming.  She helped me get my pony home, something for which I shall be forever grateful. 

My sister, Amanda.  She’s a gem.  As far as siblings go, she’s the one that is closest to me.  She’s always been there for me.  I enjoy her company.  I admire her marriage because theirs is such that one would never question whether or not they adore one another. 

My friend Amy.  She’s my confidant.  She is genuine.  She loves the Lord and always keeps me grounded.  When I have significant life struggles, concerns, or celebrations… I share them with her and she walks along side of me in prayerful support.  She is sweet, patient, and kind.   

There are many more, but I could be typing all day trying to name them all.  If you are my friend… you know it and you know that I have a soft place in my heart for you.  I’m not meaning to leave anyone out, but these 4 individuals have made a very significant impact upon my life in recent years and I am so very grateful for their place in my life.  I AM SO BLESSED!!!!

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful for the many provisions the Lord has bestowed upon us.  I am thankful for a full pantry and likewise much in our freezer.  I am thankful for our affordable home.  I am thankful for our cuddly kitties.  I am thankful for reliable transportation.  I am thankful that my husband and I are both gainfully employed.  I am thankful that my employer allows me to be somewhat flexible.  I am thankful to have a good boss.  I am thankful for generous friends, the ones who always look out for me and the things that make my heart glad.  I am thankful to have my horse and a place for her to stay.  I am thankful for the blizzard last weekend that was cause to spend the entire day with my Love.  I’m thankful for good health and a happy marriage.  There is just so so so much to be thankful for!

Wednesdays C.O.W. – Coupon of Wisdom

So I’ve been doing this Beth Moore study with my girlfriends at church.  We meet every Monday and I have to admit… it’s a good study.  It’s on the fruits of the spirit.  So the very first thing we learned has really stuck with me… so here’s a little advice…

 

In order to be filled with the Holy Spirit, we need to expel all the things that weigh our hearts down.  So in prayer we confess our sin and vow to repent.  We lay out the concerns that are heavy on our hearts.  When we have given it all up… then the Spirit can fill us.  Somehow when we free ourselves it allows the fruits of the Spirit to be expressed in us.  We experience love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. 

 

For the record, I think that self-control is the one that is of focus in my life lately.  I realize that I let petty things annoy me.  (i.e. it annoys me that my spouse doesn’t always put his dirty clothes in the basket.) If I’m mad or annoyed with my husband for something (usually something stupid) I find myself brewing over it.  Now I’m not the type of person to just spout off and degrade him.  I generally think long and hard before I open my mouth.  I’m sure that when it does surface is more nag than anger at that point.  This is where self-control comes in.  Since the focus on the study, I have spent much less time brewing over how to tell him how mad I am and a lot more time just letting God handle it.  I suppose that the Spirit gives me the patience to overlook these petty annoyances and to simply let them go.  It’s amazing!

Tuesdays With Jen – My Memoirs

The news this weekend compared our weekend winter wonderland to the Blizzard of 1993.  I remember that blizzard.  I was working at Giant Eagle in Cranberry when the snow began to fall and the public panic was initiated.  The store was CRAZY busy.  My friend, Dan, was to give me a ride home that night.  He was driving a little orange car, affectionately called “The Pumpkin.”  Aside from the memorable frenzy at work, the ride home was exciting.  We did a donut in The Pumpkin in the middle of route 8 south, near Porky’s if you are from around here.  I wasn’t expecting it.  I’m sure he did it on purpose.  The road was completely snow covered and there was little to no traffic… so conditions were prime for such fun.  It WAS fun!  Needless to say we made it home just fine and my friend became stranded at what was then my parent’s home.  We stoked the fire, played board games, ate pizza bread.  The next day we had to dig The Pumpkin out.  It was buried in snow!  We also built a snowman.  Somewhere I have pictures, but I don’t have a working scanner at the moment.  Sorry.

 

But what about the Blizzard of February 2010?  Why not write my remembrances now? 

We woke up Saturday morning, Feb 6, 2010 early.  Keith was scheduled to work and to pick up one of his employees on the way.  Guess what?  He couldn’t get out.  Yes we have 4x4, but when the snow is as high as the tires and heavy and untouched… ya, he wasn’t going anywhere.  So he called work and said he’d be late or not in at all.  A couple hours later he started shoveling.  (pictures posted already)  Thankful for his old Carhardt bib overalls from years gone by, he shoveled his heart out while I chipped away at laundry.  He worked for about 30 minutes at a time, breaking for hot coffee every now and then.   The truck was a little bit stuck from his attempt to get out.  As he was turning it around one of the front tires dropped over the hump into the yard, which is a hillside, and that was all she wrote.  After a couple hours of his shoveling, I joined the effort even though I’m still recovering from a shoulder injury.  I’ve lived in Western Pennsylvania pretty much all my life and I am pretty good at figuring out how to get un-stuck.  I admit, it’s way easier if you have a tractor nearby.  Oh well.  First, I insisted that we shovel around the truck VERY well.  Next, put some gravel behind the tires.  Finally, we cracked open one of the bags of sand that are in my car and lay it behind the tires for traction.  I figured it would be a good idea to have one person just push a wee bit on the front end to give it that umph up over the hump.  Guess what?  It worked like a dream.  I popped it into 4x4 low and at the same time I gave her a lil’ gas and Keith gave her a lil’ push and she backed right up.  Piece of cake?  Well… unless you consider all the shoveling. 

Proud of ourselves we returned to the house to warm up.  We realized that the neighbor was not going to shovel her portion of the driveway and the next house beside her is vacant… so we figured at best we would have to shovel from our house at least two houses down.  This seemed like a monumental task that we were not in a hurry to tackle.  Keith called his work again and reported that he was not going to make it at all.  About and hour later there was a knock at our door.  The neighbor several houses down was asking if we’d help shovel the driveway.  Of course we will!  Glad to have additional assistance, we both donned our winter attire and headed out to join the efforts.  This is a 50 year old man and one teenager that were already tackling the job.  The four of us shoveled the entire driveway.  There was one other lady that came out and helped as much as she could, but she didn’t look like she should be doing that kind of work.  We helped her shovel around her car and when she was done she let me borrow her ergonomically correct shovel.  Note to self:  buy at least 2 of those shovels for ourselves! 

So after we were all shoveled out, we had lunch.  I made a delicious hot ham & cheese on a bun for each of us.  Then we took a much needed winter nap.  The evening was enjoyed together… nothing extra special.  Just a little tv, computer, some fresh baked cookies, and snuggling.  It doesn’t get much better than that.  It was definitely a memorable blizzard.  I know my Handy-hubby does not so much enjoy the snow.  I don’t mind it so much.  I actually enjoy the idea of being snowed in at least once a year. 

Blessings Monday

We are so blessed…

- We have a few good neighbors that banned together to shovel our shared driveway.  Handy-hubby and I had shoveled our own area out and were taking a break when the neighbor came knocking.  We figured that we’d have to do the brunt of the work to get out because the next door neighbor parked on the street instead of in her garage, so she didn’t need to get out back there.  AND the next house is vacant, so we are sure that nobody is going to show to dig that place out.  We have to pass behind about six residences to get out.  I’m very thankful that there are a few good neighbors here.

- We’ve been blessed to have a new laptop computer.  I think I’ve mentioned this before.  It’s so nice to be able to take it anywhere in the house.  I’m grateful to be able to pick-up free wireless where we live.  It’s saving us a bundle.  I’m also blessed to be able to access my work computer from home.  I’m able to do some general catch up from home.  I can send documents to the work printer and when I get there the next work day, there will be a pile waiting to process.  Also, I can fax thru this connection too!  It’s wonderful!

- We are both gainfully employed.  My Handy-hubby is NOT liking his new job, but he’s sticking it out.  He’s got higher aspirations on the horizon, all the while knowing that the Lord has a plan for him in his current situation.  We are blessed to be employed, especially when the economy is what it is. 

- We are blessed to have reliable transportation.  We have a descent car that is fuel efficient and paid for!  We bought it expecting longevity and so far it’s been a good car.  It has more than 75000 miles on it, which is a lot for a 2006 model, but we expect to get a couple hundred thousand out of it.  Likewise, we are blessed to have the “Big Bird” 4x4 pick up truck.  This is something I pined for over the years.  Thanks to the economy, we were able to land a very good deal last year.  It’s pretty and also reliable.  Not exactly fuel efficient, but definitely worth having.  We hope it is a blessing to others as well.  After the blizzard this weekend, I’m wishing we had a snow plow… just think what a blessing that would be!  Maybe in the future???  We are blessed to have more than one vehicle, realizing that some families do not.

Selfless Sunday

Ok – so I wanted to start this and then I completely fell off the wagon for a couple of weeks.  It’s not that I’ve been selfish, but I just lagged in posting things. 

 

So I’m staying in this Sunday… not venturing out for church or any other reason.  Our county has been declared a “state of emergency.”  That supposed to mean that you don’t go out unless you HAVE to. 

 

However…I think our work yesterday definitely counts for Selfless Sunday….

 

We (along with 2 other neighbors) shoveled out the entire driveway for the 6 or more homes who share the driveway.  We were beat, but still went back to help one of the neighbor ladies dig out her car and also the car of the neighbor guy who had been helping shovel but needed a break.  Seriously my heart wanted to shovel all day long, but my gimpy shoulder couldn’t.  Otherwise I might have kept on going.  It felt good to help those around us. 

 

I kept thinking all day long… wouldn’t it be grand to have a snow plow?  I would have spend the entire day plowing people out.  I don’t want it to make money… I just want to have fun and bless others.  Maybe someday????

It's been a very busy day of shoveling snow here. We are both beat and I'm thinking that I'm going to pay a price for abusing my gimpy shoulder today. Oh well... we can get out. Keith got to stay home with me today. I'm glad for that.

Wednesday’s C.O.W. – Coupon Of Wisdom

So one day during my girls group study we were talking about books of the Bible. If you use a study Bible, you might notice that at the beginning of each chapter there is some additional information that is supposed to be helpful. Usually it entails the approximate time and/or setting that it was written and an outline of specific themes. Go with me here for a minute… IF there was a book of [your name] in the Bible, what would it entail? So we did this exercise in our group. Let’s face it, we ALL have some significant life-theme of some sort.

So hypothetically of course, the Book of Jennifer would include the following themes identified in late 2009: (the book has yet to be officially written)

1) Deliberate Prayerfulness

I will develop and maintain humble prayerful habits including time, place, writing prayers, and recording answered prayers. My prayers shall focus on praising God, others needs, and my own personal spiritual growth.

2) Surrender to God’s will

I will lay my hearts desires humbly at the feet of the Lord and listen for the prompting of the Spirit. I will guard against obsessive longing as the power of the mind can steal my focus. I shall remind myself continually that God is in control and all circumstances have purpose.

3) Faithfulness of God

I will recognize the Lord’s purposes in the events of my past and present. I will recognize answered prayers and give God the glory for all good things. God is faithful and I know it well.

Tuesdays With Jen – My Memoirs

In honor of last weeks snow snow snow I just HAD to dig this one up… Slide Slide Slippity Slide  I can’t help it.  I crack up every time I recall this incident.  After one evening not being able to get the whole way up the driveway to the barn, this is all I could think of.  Had I not parked it in the ditch on purpose, it could have been the sequel to this. 

 

Oh the grand and precious memories from the old farmhouse!

Blessings Monday

 

On this Monday morning I am recounting some blessings…

 

1) Family.  Some family has come from afar this week to visit.  We celebrated some birthdays.  There has been good food, fun, and company.

 

2) Work.  Flexibility.  Home computer.  I had a little setback with my shoulder injury on Friday.  My boss let me go home an hour early so I could relax and ice it.  I’m thankful for the home computer with access to my work so I could spend some time catching up on some things from home.  I have the best boss!

 

3) Sisters.  I had a lovely time sipping wine and laughing with them in the Zombeck’s newly painted and furnished living room.

 

4) Berries.  I bought a huge bag of frozen berries at Sam’s Club.  It has giant blackberries, red raspberries, and blueberries in it.  I’ve been enjoying them all week long.  I put them in my salad.  I have them frozen with milk and whipped cream.  I have them in a smoothie.  I have them by the handful.  They have little to no sugar on them.  They are good for me being packed with antioxidants.  I love berries! 

 

5) New Pillows.  We bought new pillows about a week ago.  They are SO nice.  It’s helping me sleep better because I have to prop my arm up in order to avoid the agony of gravity pulling it.  I love our new pillows.

 

6)  Warmer weather.  It’s above freezing outside.  It feels like a heat wave!  Every season has its purpose, but I admit that I’m tired of snow snow snow.  The warmth is a welcomed treat and we shall enjoy it even more knowing that it will be short-lived.

Saturday’s Savings & Weekly Meal Planning

This week, like last, has panned out a little different than expected.  It’s not my usual routine.  I did not do any grocery shopping this weekend.  We’ll be eating from the pantry and freezer again this week.  Here is the line-up, in no particular order.

 

1)  Ham slice with potato and vegetable

2)  Beef chili with cheddar cheese and corn muffin

3)  Breakfast night – pancakes with bacon

4)  BBQ pork chop with rice and vegetable

5)  Spaghetti with side salad

6)  Date night eating out with my hubby

7)  Sunday dinner at my parents

…. and if there is a night when I don’t feel like cooking, we still have left over from last week and will likely have some this week too. 

 

What I need to get to make this happen:

cheddar cheese, bacon, salad dressing.  Cheap cheap cheap!

Thankful Thursday

 

This morning I am especially thankful for my loving husband who has been caring for me especially well since I injured my arm a week and a half ago.  What would I do without him?  He’s been gracious to me and I appreciate it.  He plans to be home today and expects a Honey-Do list and hasn’t grumbled about it.  Bless his heart.

 

I’m thankful for our new laptop computer.  It’s so convenient.  We take it from room to room in our home.  We probably spend WAY too much time playing dumb face book games, but we also use it for work-related things.  I’m also thankful that we can pick up free wireless service in our area.  It’s saving us at least $50 per month in internet fees.  While it would be convenient to have the secure connection, we have discussed the option and agree to pinch those pennies… because we can!

 

I’m thankful that we are both gainfully employed.  I’m thankful for having two decent vehicles, one of which is efficient AND paid for.  I’m delighted to have the truck and to be able to use it whenever I need.  What a blessing it has been in so many ways.

C.O.W. – Coupons Of Wisdom

Psalm 116:5

“The Lord is gracious and righteous, our God is full of compassion.”

 

On a hot day this past summer Keith got the call at his former place of employment from his new place of employment.  They were recruiting him for a management position.  This happened to be the position he had hoped for with his former employer, but due to economy constraints it never came to pass.  And… as you might imagine, it came with a slight increase in compensation.

 

This opportunity came moments after I wrote our weekly tithe check.  After writing the rent check, I was nervous about giving our full tithe.  This meant transferring money from our savings and zeroing out our checking account, and hoping to get by with a few dollars from the savings account used for gas and grocery.  I admit, for a moment I contemplated borrowing from God, shorting  the tithe check just a wee bit to get by.  The Holy Spirit encouraged me to trust.  Funny thing is that I already know the Lord’s faithfulness… why must I deal with such inadequacies of our human nature to doubt?!  I did not succumb to the temptation.  As I wrote that check for the full amount I pondered “If this job opportunity pans out positively, I’ll be delighted to add it to our list of examples of the Lord’s faithfulness.”  And that it did…  It is true… If you are faithful with little it can result in much.   We have experienced the Lords graciousness, righteousness, and compassion!  How awesome is that!

Anniversary’s past…

Several years ago, when we lived in the farm house, we had a very memorable anniversary.  I worked all day.  Keith was home hours before me.  He had mentioned to our landlord that it was our anniversary.  She made him a lasagna and a fresh loaf of homemade bread.  When I got home, he had the table set with candles and wine.  I was in shock when he pulled the lasagna out of the oven.  He had help, but man was it nice!  This beat any monetary gift ever. 

 

I love my hubby.  He is so good to me.

Selfless Sunday

I’m only a day late in reporting, but my Sunday did not turn out as I had anticipated.  All I have to offer for my challenge is that Keith and I went to the Zombeck’s and helped them paint.  Me and my gimpy arm aren’t much help, but I tried.  I painted some trim.  They made fun of me calling me a rapture because of my posture I guess.  They are gonna get it!

 

Anyway, I guess that counts as being selfless… It was nice to lend a hand, even if it was a gimpy one.

Count Your Blessings Monday

This morning I am counting the blessing of having my Bible and my ladies group friends.  Not everyone in the world has the opportunity to have free and unlimited access to the Holy Bible.  I have several copies and multiple versions.  I have a bible that was given to me as a teen ager.  It has years of notes in it and a small handful of inserts such as notes or photos that are especially dear to me.  I also have a New King James Version that is small enough to fit in my purse, but large enough that I don’t need a magnifying glass to read it.  It also has a very pretty blue leather cover with a flower embroidered on it.  I use this one when I travel or attend Bible study with my lady friends. 

 

I have a couple groups of lovely ladies that I meet with to dig into the Word.  My group in Butler meets twice each month.  We sip coffee and delve into whatever study we have planned in advance.  This group doesn’t usually use a study guide.  We each read the scripture and do our own investigation of the background and details surrounding it significance.  Interestingly enough, we each generally find ourselves pulled in a particular direction in the midst of it, but usually it’s different for each one of us.  So when we share with the group we get a lot of pertinent perspectives, which is great.  I love my Butler ladies group.  They are die-hards, down to earth, loving, encouraging, and trustworthy sisters in Christ.

 

I have another group of ladies at my church that I meet with weekly.  We are doing the Living Beyond Yourself study by Beth Moore.  This is the third study that I’ve led there.   It’s a great way to further integrate myself into the church.  Like my Butler group, these ladies are dedicated and genuine sisters in Christ. 

 

I am so blessed to have the presence of the Word in my life and to be sharing and experiencing it with some close friends.  God is good!

Saturday’s Savings & Weekly Meal Planning

Well, things didn’t go as planned today.  I had Girls Group this morning and now I’m trying to rush thru my post while Keith is in the shower.  He’s off today, so I’m planning to focus on “us time” instead of coupon clipping and shopping.  My arm doesn’t want to clip coupons anyway.  Or… maybe he’ll help me with that later?  Hmmm.

 

I do have a few ideas for our meals this week.  I don’t plan each day.  Instead I plan a series of meals and whichever fits into any particular day is what we have.  I only plan 5 days at a time.   We generally eat out one day each week and the 7th day we have leftovers.  Here goes:

 

1)  Grilled Ham & Cheese with tomato soup.

2)  Stuffed Shells & Salad

3)  Ham slice, potato, & green beans

4) Pancakes & bacon

5) BBQ Pork Chop & mixed vegetables

 

What I need to get to make this happen:  salad makings & potatoes.  I have everything else in my freezer or pantry.  YAY!!!  So there’s a savings for this week…  I can just get those couple of things and if there are sale items too good to pass up then I’ll get those too.  Saweet!!!

Remember in the summer I mentioned a rather large spider taking up residence in the barn? I found a picture... We named him Vince. He only had 7 legs... poor guy. He gives me the creeps!!!!

Time For Change

I decided to make some changes to my blog. While I’d really like to have a professionally designed blog, that’s not likely an expense I will delve into just yet. Just having internet these days is a big change for us. So last evening I revised some of the topics I will be blogging about. The new lineup is as follows:

Monday: Count Your Blessings Monday. It is enlightening and appropriate to recognize our blessings on a regular basis. It keeps us grounded as individuals and the recognition is pleasing to God. This one is hosted at Amazing Graze Farm over at Down On The Farm.

Tuesday: Tuesdays With Jen – My Memoirs. This is all about remembering where I came from and significant events and remembrances of my past. Over the years I have kept journal after journal of personal thoughts, prayers, and devotional notes. From time to time I may just publish portions of my old journals.

Wednesday: Wednesday’s Coupon Of Wisdom. You know sometimes when you are doing your devotions and something just jumps out at you? It might be a Bible verse, memory verse, or a comment or quote or maybe even just a concept that needs built upon. Sometimes I write that on a sticky note or somewhere where I will see it often. It’s like clipping a coupon. You clip it, hold it close, and when just the right opportunity knocks, you pull it out and spend it. The best part is that we don’t have to give up the coupon when we spend it. It’s better than double coupons… it’s a life-long coupon of wisdom that we can spend as many times as we’d like.

Thursday: Thankful Thursday. While I’m remembering my blessings on Monday, which I am also thankful for, this is an opportunity to express that thankfulness. It’s kind of like a mid-week reminder to appreciate those blessings. We definitely need to stay focused on these things. This one is hosted by Iris over at Grace Alone.

Friday: Foto Friday. I haven’t had the opportunity to participate in this one yet. This idea belongs to Rebecca over at Renaissance. She gives a weekly theme to capture. It’s up to the participants to be creative in how we interpret and snap those photos. As soon as we were back online Keith said “We can do Foto Friday!” So we will share the experience and try to think outside of the box. Looking forward to it.

Saturday: Saturday’s Savings & Weekly Meal Planning. I NEED to do this one! I’ve really gotten lazy about clipping coupons and staying on a regular shopping schedule and planning those meals. My laziness has led to an increase in eating out, which is very wasteful. Paying off our car has made it a little easier to fall into that trap. We have to STOP IT! We have plans to snowball those funds in effort to blast out another debt. So, by reorganizing my blog I hope to recapture the habit and stick to it. Besides, now that we are past Christmas and New Years, things should become more routine at home anyway.

Sunday: Selfless Sunday. This is a new one that I dreamed up this week. I’ve been thinking about this lately. I want to make a point to do at least one deliberately selfless thing on Sunday. This might be as simple as making Keith’s morning coffee with a joyful heart or holding a door for someone, or as elaborate as slipping someone some unexpected cash, shoveling a neighbors driveway or sidewalk. As a matter of fact, yesterday someone did something nice for me and I was so grateful. I wasn’t feeling well. I had been in and out of work for doctor and PT appointments. I was miserable and at 2pm finally getting to grab lunch. One of my doctor friends insisted upon buying my lunch. How sweet was that?! It was appreciated. I’m not looking for any recognition for this, but I thought if I recorded it here that it would keep me accountable in being deliberate about it AND… maybe someone else will catch on and pay it forward. Any takers?

Is it obvious that I like order in my life? I like it on my blog too. That doesn’t mean there won’t be other miscellaneous posts, but I want to try to keep up with some regulars. Anyone want to join me on these? Some of them? I need to make some logos for some of them… we’ll see.

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful for my loving husband who upon hearing that I had been injured, did the dishes and proceeded to wait on me.  He has been so sweet and helpful.  He doesn’t even complain that he has to help me get dressed.  This evening he went to the store with me just so he could carry the bags for me.  I’m so spoiled. 

 

I am thankful for my boss who looks out for my best interests.  He insisted that I file a work-comp claim, which was probably a good idea because now I’m having physical therapy.  He completely understood that I wasn’t feeling well today.  I felt a wee bit disheveled today having to see the doctor and physical therapist.  Likewise, I didn’t feel the least bit productive today.  He agreed that I can stay home tomorrow.  I can do some work if I’m up to it.  He realizes that I just need to rest and get better.

 

I am thankful for my friend Janet.  She keeps my pony for me along side her three ponies.  She spoils them all.  Her generosity is so grand.  When I go to do chores, she comes to the barn and helps me while she visits.  When the weather is nice she encourages me to ride.  She has introduced me to all the local trails.  She’s also hauled the horses to other places to ride like Moraine & Bear Run.  She has graciously offered to take care of things at the farm tomorrow so I don’t have to drive out there and so I can rest.  She is wonderful, generous, and selfless.  She’s a true gem. 

 

I am very blessed to have many good friends and family. 

Tuesdays With Jen – My Memoirs

We used to live in a big old farm house on 50 acres in Chicora.  We loved that place.  The abundance of wildlife amazed us.  We had a wild turkey whom we affectionately called “Peggy the Peg Leg” because she only had one leg.  We used to feed the birds in the winter and she would come with her flock of friends and clean up the leftovers that the blue-birds and woodpeckers spilled on the ground.  We were warned not to feed the birds in the summer.  We learned that the hard way when the black bear arrived, ate a whole bucket of birdseed, and then returned again late that evening to scout things closer to the house.  They were on the porch, right up to the back door.  It had rained and was muddy.  There were muddy bear paw prints on our lawn furniture.  They crawled through my flower bed.  We took only 2 pictures before the camera jammed.  I have no idea where they are.  There were several, but most memorable was the mama bear and her two cubs.  The cubs were probably a year old at that time, not too small.  The cubs both went up the same tree and rested in the Y half way up.  The mama bear sat her big butt down at the base of the tree as if guarding.  We didn’t see them much beyond that but there were other animals of note…  There were deer.  There were hawks, owls, squirrels, and chipmunks.  I saw a bobcat twice. 

 

It was hard to leave that home that was so dear to us, but it was for a higher calling that we left.  I still remember it fondly… mostly at holidays and in the midst of the change of seasons.  We celebrated some really grand Thanksgivings there.  When the snow came in abundance we found ourselves pretty much stranded… stuck… and so did our guests. 

 

I miss that old place.  I still connect with the landlord on occasion.  She was a delightful motherly German woman with a strong accent and plenty of wit.

Misc Thoughts

On Sunday evenings, Keith and I like to drink hot chocolate while watching Newhart & Barney Miller re-runs.  He’s working tonight… Bummer :(

 

And… I’m delighted to report that I recently paid off my car (early) and I now have the title in-hand.  YAY!!!!  It’s so liberating!!!

Sneak Peak Sunday

Oh what a week it’s been.  I worked.  I cooked.  I cleaned.  I wrapped more presents.  We ate.  We celebrated.  We shivered and shoveled.  We lounged a bit succumbing to laziness.  And that about sums it up.

A Pretty Pink Princess…

In the midst of the celebration of the new year, we celebrated Annabelle’s 3rd birthday.  She’s such a precious princess, lover of pink and pretties.  What a doll! 

 

They brought their Wii, which Keith thoroughly enjoyed.  There’s a picture of he and Joyce boxing.  It was amusing to watch.

 

The meal was delicious as usual… all the traditional fixings.  The evening concluded with some lounging in Mom & Dad’s new home.  It’s comfy.

Yesterday Winter Bloomed

I am very blessed to live where I can witness the change of seasons.  My favorite winter day is one like yesterday, but with lots of sunshine.  When I was small, I remember my Granny noting the beauty of the untouched snow.  That was how my yesterday started… recalling those words of hers. 

 

It was not too cold, just enough for snow.  The wind was slim to none.  The heavy wet snow defined every surface it touched.  Each tree limb dressed with the lacey flakes of snow, so pure, and so perfect!  It was the definition of pure beauty and this is all I could ponder upon for my entire ride to work yesterday.

 

The picture is our back yard… untouched in the midst of sunrise.  The neighbor’s dog hadn’t yet assaulted it with it’s playful paws.

 

And… one more thing came to mind as I surveyed my surroundings… Boy would a remote started be nice on cold days.

And I’m so glad that “I” get to park my car in the garage… where the sweeping of snow is not necessary nor do I have to warm it up. 

Works For Me On Wednesday

I don’t have much… but how about these virtual stick-it notes on the new computer.  I love them.  I know without any doubt that my Handy Hubby will use the computer every morning.  So… I leave him little notes there. 

 

… and that’s what works for me!

Tuesday’s With Jen

Let’s see… what do I remember from my youth?  I recently ran into a young lady who years and years ago was a little girl who wanted to ride my horse.  She rode Magnium in at least one of the classes at the Fair show.  When her mother spotted me at the Christmas party, she proclaimed “There’s Magnium’s mother!”  How fond I was of my Magnium.  He was a safe ride for a young teen, myself.  What a good horse he was.  He took me far and wide.  Farther and wider than my parents might have ever imagined.  When I sold him I was heart broken.  I remember my own mother asking me if I’d made a mistake.  That wasn’t any help.  When the big truck came for him, he jumped right on.  I visited him on various occasions, mostly at horse shows where his new owners took him. 

 

I understand that he now lives in Ohio… if he’s still alive.  He’d be rather ancient in horse years now. 

 

He was a good horse.  I miss him.

Sneak Peak Sunday

Well, the last week has been so cluttered with this and that.  I’m not even sure I can recap it all. Nor do I think I should try. 

 

I’m very much looking forward to continuing the celebration of Christmas with my parents, brother, sister-in-law, and their precious littles this afternoon.  I’ve got a baking dish full of stuffed shells in the oven that we’ll take along to share. 

 

We also hope to connect with the Zombeck family this evening as we have a little something for them too… he he he! 

 

Note to self:  need to get batteries!  if you don’t get batteries, there will be no picture taking tonight!

 

And here’s a little photo that I didn’t get to share months ago.  We celebrated our birthdays in style by dining at a fancy restaurant in Pittsburgh this summer.  Amanda’s b-day is 8-16 and John and mine are 8-17.  We invited Keith by default even though his b-day is in May…. It would not have been the same without him.  It was delightful!

 

I’ll close with this reminder… Don’t forget to savor the moments of awe, wonder, and marvel at the glorious works of the Lord!!! 

Keith's Favorite Gift

We visited the Valentines in the summer. We had stayed out way too late at the cottage and the kids were tired and probably nappless. It was almost 10pm when Gayle asked if she could ride home with us. Her Dad told her "For $5." Her tired whiney reply was "But I don't have $5." Her dad reminds her that she has money from a garage sale to which she replys in true distress "OK, but I was saving that to buy a unicorn!!!!!!" We all had a good laugh and really, writing this story just does not do it justice. I think you really had to be there to get the full effect. So the next day we questioned her about this unicorn that she wants to buy. She wants a white unicorn with a blue mane and a pink tail and a yellow horn and a purple whatever... so specific.

So Keith got her a special unicorn at the glass blowing center. This photo is her opening that gift. Keith feels like such a special uncle for getting her a unicorn. Sadly, the head broke off only minutes later as she was playing with it. We packed it back up in the gift box and her parents said they would try to glue it. The next morning I came into the dining room to find her sitting by her lonesome pearing into the box with such a sad sad look on her face. She was devestated.

I keep meaning to call the glass blowing center to see if they can fix it. So maybe the next time they visit, they could carefully transport the precious unicorn and we will see if we can get it fixed for her.

Saturday’s Savings

Trying to get back to my daily posts on particular topics.  I like order.  I need order.  Clutter aggravates me!

 

Today I’m saving my sanity!  I will not be going out to shop.  What aggravates me more than clutter??? Crowds!  So I’m not only saving money today… I’m saving my nerves.  Besides… my house really needs cleaned!

The Day After…

Wow!  Christmas was a whirlwind this year.  We had Christmas Eve dinner with Rene’e because Keith wasn’t going to be able to make it to her house for the festivities… and festive it was!  I love going to Renee’s for Christmas.  While Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, Christmas is hers and she spares no expense.  Her home is a winter wonderland of decor and her tree sparkles so pretty.  There was ham and turkey with all the fixins and desserts galore!  The gift giving was a wild exchange with ribbons and paper waste all over.  I’ve never seen so much red (Farmall Fans) in one place.  They crack me up.  It was nice to see them all, especially some of the family that I don’t get to see very much. 

Renee does the white-elephant gift exchange too.  You know, the game where you can either pick a gift or steal someone else’s.  It was hilarious.  There was a red union suit with an International Harvester logo on it.  Someone said “That’s the sexiest thing in the room.” and it made its rounds being stolen several times.  Whoda thunk it?!  I wanted to steal it for Keith, but I don’t think he’d actually use it.  (I know he wouldn’t)  So I couldn’t because there were some there who wanted it for its warmth!  (or maybe they wanted it for its sex appeal?)  HA!!!!  The gift that I got (I shall not reveal it yet) was something that was a re-gifted gift to start.  Someone brought it to the game to get rid of it.  The person that opened it vowed to re-gift it to someone else.  Somehow I ended up with it.  I plan to re-gift it too… Shhhhhh… don’t tell the Zombecks!  They will either love it or hate it.  (and it comes with permission to be re-gifted.)  It’s too funny!  I hope to take pictures and post. 

 

After the party I went to the barn.  I had two big carrots for each of the horses.  I had plans to take the time to brush my little pony, but alas she was wet from the rain.  It’s not a good idea to brush the wet in the cold.  That would make it soak down to her skin and she could chill.  Better to let it air dry as is.  None the less, I rubbed her forehead and doted on her a bit.  She’s so sassy and spoiled, but I love her dearly.  I’m very blessed to have her and enjoy it very much.  Yes, even in nasty weather. 

 

My favorite gift would have to be the pasta bowls… something that’s been on my list for a long time.  Yay!!!!  I also really like the singing cow stocking that Rene’e gave me.  What didn’t I get that I really wanted?  Those gel socks that’ I’ve been eyeing up for months.  Every time we got to Walmart I point them out to Keith.  I think I just might buy them for myself after all.  Rene’e got some and I was jealous.  What was your favorite gift?

 

I didn’t get to my folks in time to give the littles their gifts.  I think their new Wii will definitely overshadow our little presents anyway.  So they can enjoy the game for a bit and then hopefully we’ll see them in the next couple of days. 

It’s Christmas Eve

Yes, it’s Christmas Eve.  All best intentions of having all our out of town relatives gifts mailed has gone out the window of time.  They will all be having a New Years Christmas from us.  SORRY!!!  Lucky for the Valentines… we had Christmas early with them. 

 

I’m working a half day today.  I’m taking the truck aka “The Big Bird” to work so I can pick up a gift for Keith on my way home.  If the store doesn’t have what I’m looking for, then I’ll have to backtrack and initiate plan B.  As usual… I have him guessing what in the world I’d need the truck for today.  Ha ha ha.  :)  We are to have dinner with Rene’e this evening and then we’ll attend the candlelight service at church.

 

I’m so glad for Keith.  He spend much of yesterday playing on Facebook.  He found most of his old Army friends!  How exciting for him to reconnect. 

 

I’d like to wish all a most festive and very Merry Christmas.  Enjoy!!!

Way Back Wednesday

In the spirit of Christmas, I’m thinking back to Christmas as a little girl.  The first memory that comes to mind is that I dreamed excessively that I would get a horse for Christmas.  It was a vivid dream… I imagined someone telling me to look out the window and another someone leading it down the driveway.  Of course this dream was never exactly a Christmas reality.  My horse-gift did not come at Christmas time. 

 

My next Christmas recollection is that my Mom would wrap the gifts and number them, instead of putting our names on them.  Great idea Ma.  Among the coolest gifts….  a radio/cassette player from my parents and jewelry from cousin Steve. 

 

And last, but so so sweet…. Grammy always wrapped her gifts in white tissue paper and sometimes used stickers for tape. 

 

My final comment this morning is that I’m disappointed because there will be no Ugly Ornament Contest for us this year.  Bummer!

Flashback...

I'm leading the Beth Moore Esther study for a groups of lovely ladies at church. That's my Monday.

Tuesday all was back to normal until the accident. Some woman side swiped my car. Ugh!! I'm supposed to get an estimate on the damages tomorrow.

I had a really long day on Wednesday. My office hosted a meeting for the local chapter of professionals who work in our field. I happen to be the Secretary of that organization. It was a nice evening.

Thursday was business as usual. Work then farm chores. Brushed my pony and spoiled her a bunch. She's getting fluffy.

That brings us to Friday... Nothing earth shattering. Work, farm chores, and dinner out w/ HandyHubby.

Slept in 4 hours on Saturday. 7am left and visited the Farmers Market. Then the Strip to Deluca's for breakfast. Later, I spent a long time clipping coupons and organizing them. HandyHubby joined me in shopping for the weekly deals. We got a bunch but were disappointed that the store was out of some things for which we had coupons that are expired today. Bummer. Oh well, the pantry is well stocked anyway.

This morning we worshipped at the early service. After brunch we went for a drive. Now home... He's watching the Nascar race. I best go prepare for tomorrow's study.

I checked into my hotel aka the farm on Tuesday. Any morning when I can set foot outside and be greeted by the sweet sound of my horse is a blessed day. I am so blessed...all week long! She had her shoes pulled today. The bulk of my riding is done for this year. Its hunting season now so our trails are limited.

Its quiet here for the most part, except for my two snoring pals at the moment. One is a chocolate lab and the other a pitbull (a very sweet and rather small one). They both hit the sack before me and YES they are both snoring! The kitty is beside me in bed as I type. He's purring like a Mack truck and kneading against my arm. This would be like heaven for Essie!!!

I miss my HandyHubby who is holding down the fort at home. Maybe ill get to see him tomorrow? He came last night bearing gifts... A new saphire ring. Good job Babe.

Its worth mentioning that I have heard the bear this week. I know they are here but I haven't seen them. I let the dogs out about 5AM Wed AM and I heard a distinct growling in the woods, not too close mind you but close enough to hear and know exactly what it was. I would like to see them, just not up close.

Well, I suppose ill turn in for tonight. G'night all.

Tuesdays With Jen

I woke up Sunday morning with my Grandpa on my mind... We called him "Grampy.". I remember his hands were rough but gentle and he had a crooked finger. It was his pointer finger. He wore work pants, flannel shirts, red suspenders, and rubbers on his shoes. He had a potato with every meal. He had "worship" twice each day where he got on his knees and prayed. He liked to go to SteppInn for coffee and chatter. He worked hard. He was a farmer. Over the years I have met many persons who knew him well and spoke very highly of him.

So there you have it...some rememberances of someone who stole my heart early in life and whose legacy has influenced my life significantly.

Blessings Monday

I am thankful for our truck. We have now helped move a few people and soon will help move my parents as well. I knew we would USE the truck if we got one. We are very blessed to have it and aspire to use it to bless others when we can.

Weekend Snippets

Let me back up to Thursday... I took a vacation day and enjoyed every moment of it. I went to Volant, PA with my friend and her daughter. We got pumpkins, looked at horses, had more holes punched in my belt, and grabbed lunch at every childs favorite... McDonalds. Afterwards we played "horses" until her brother came home. It was a nice visit. I'm very blessed to have friends with such lovely children. I especially like that the kiddos like me so much. It was a great day! Thanks Pal!!!

Friday was the annual golf outing. It was a dreadful cold and rainy day. The lunch was good and the dinner very nice. Its ok. I don't golf anyway. I'm just there to decorate the tables, eat, drink, and if its nice we drive around on golf carts acting like idiots and taking pictures. I'm happy to report that the guys actually said that they missed us since we didn't take pictures.

Saturday was kind of a lazy day. HandyHubby had to work all afternoon. I clipped coupons and did some grocery shopping. I need to get back into a routine with coupon clipping and grocery shopping. I've been lazy about that lately. I made a pot of taco soup for dinner. HandyHubby was happy about that. I also completed half of this weeks assignments for my Monday Night Esther Bible Study.

So that brings us to today. It started with coffee and tea. Then church. Helped Uncle Charlie move some things. See, I knew we would find many ways to use our truck to bless others! Had a nice dinner out with the Zombecks...thanks Zombecks!! You rock!! Played with their kujo-kitty...ouch! And caught a few glimpses of Chilly. We also brought home the sewing machine that Grandma gave me years ago. I'm going to use it for my daily devotions. Cleaned the birdcage tonight. Rearrainged things and changed out the toys. When the birds got back in it was like they were exploring a new jungle. They like variety and special snacks. I always give them millet after cleaning the cage. HandyHubby is watching the Steeler game. I think Ill go finish my Bible Study and get ready for bed.

And those are the snippets of my weekend!

change of season

Autumn is my favorite season. I love constant change. We are so blessed to live in an area where we witness the change of seasons so vibrantly. Each morning my commute to work is different. The route is the same but the scenery changes. Its becoming more vibrant but hasn't reached its peak yet. God paints a grand landscape.

We are embarking upon a new season of life as well. Today is my Handy-Hubby's last day with Starbux. Its bitter-sweet. He loves the coffee business but wasn't moving up as he aspired to. The economy affected his ability to meet those aspirations. I told him to just be content there and enjoy the work. Just about the time that he started feeling content, God dropped an opportunity in his lap. He did not seek this... He was recruited. He interviewed exceptionally well and he starts his new job on Monday! Yay!!!

So here is to the change of seasons!!! Enjoy them and thank the Lord for them.

Blessings Monday

We are embarking upon potential opportunity. My Handy-Hubby is being recruited by another company. If the research I've found is accurate it would be a good move if the location and hours pan out well. Well see. Right now we are consumed with prepping his resume to submit for consideration. So with much prayerful anticipation we move forward. We are blessed by the opportunity no matter what the outcome. Thank you for your prayers for us on this matter.

It's Wednesday and It Works for Me!

When I see an opportunity to order a sample of any particular product, I usually go for it. Why does that work for me??? First, they usually send a coupon. So if I like it, then I have a coupon. And more importantly, I keep a stash of sample size toiletries. Especially soaps, shampoos, conditioners, etc. When I have guests at our home, there is a large selection of these to choose if they are not looking for what's already in our bathroom. Likewise, when I am vacationing, this is the perfect size to take along and not have to bring home.

So there you have it.... it's Wednesday and it Works For Me...

Tuesdays With Jen... My Memoirs

10 Random Recollections...

1) The grass at the farm, the old homestead was rarely cut. There was a path from the barn to the house.

2) We used to put the kitties in a feed sack, swing them around a few times, then let them out. Cruel yes... my brother taught me that. The mind of a child is often twisted.

3) Mom butchered chickens. We helped pluck them. I don't remember eating them though.

4) Grandpa had a jar of cologne on his dresser. It was shaped like a train. What kind was that anyway?

5) There was a GIGANTIC spider in the upstairs. In Grandpa & Paul's room in the attic doorway.

6) We used to pick daffodils on the hillside near the house. They grew in abundance there.

7) I once saw my grandfather beat a groundhog to death with an old pipe. I'm pretty sure it was a sickly animal.

8) Grampy used to take me into the springhouse and dip us some water to drink. It was a cool treat on a hot day. I think there were also black snakes in the springhouse, but he wasn't afraid of them.

9) There were some shiny stones in the driveway about half-way up from the farm. I'm not sure what kind of stone it was, but it always caught my eye.

10) There was a HUGE puddle at the top of the driveway. It was FULL of tadpoles in the spring.

Blessings Monday

I've been so out of the loop on blog-happenings and postings etc. It's all because our computer crashed BIG TIME and I refuse to spend a lot of money to fix it. Let's face it... as much as we love it, the computer is a huge distraction in our lives. It distracts me for hours of working from home and it distracts K with games. It meant we'd spend countless hours apart from one another. I mean, who wants to just sit by and watch the other play on the computer. Sure it was fun to blog and email and chat... but we finally found a way to chop $50 from our monthly budget and spend more time with eachother. THAT is why it was worth it. Someday we'll get back to it, but for now we are hit or miss computer wise.

So... for Blessings Monday I'm counting my blessing of extra time with my Handy Hubby. I appreciate that we have a lot more meals together... and some down-time together too. It's well worth it. God is good and knows what's best for us, and right now... a lack of daily computer is what we need. Thank you Lord.

A Week Away

I'm just getting back from a week away. I really needed it!

We spent a week at Good Evening Ranch in West Virginia. It was relaxing and entirely enjoyable. Keith's Dad, Step-Mom, both sisters with spouses and our nephew all piled into a cabin sleeping 8. We had a hot-tub on the back deck and full run of the ranch including swimming. There were private ponds for fishing, which we took full advantage of. There were horses, llamas, tigers, lions, goats, cattle, horses, camels and even a 3-day old camel. That was very cool! We went horseback riding at Babcock Stables. Our guide was incredibly patient and extremely knowledgable. Of course, Keith and I were the only ones on the ride with much experience. Rob had ridden before, but not like Keith and I. It was beautiful and the ride was lovely. I want to do it again!

On the way home, K and I stopped at a couple of wineries. One was kind of back-woodsy. They were selling moonshine too. We didn't buy any. Then we found a really nice one where I could have spent my entire day! We also stopped to tour an old West Virginia State Asylum... you know for the insane. When we walked up to the desk and was greeted by a strange looking fellow wearing a Marilyn Manson t-shirt, I wondered to myself... what have we got ourselves into. We bought a ticket and as we were waiting I read the sign on one of the doors "Ghost Hunters prohibited in this room." Hmmm... What HAVE we got ourselves into? We only toured the lower level of the facility. It was actually fascinating and quite historical. Some of the building was used in Civil War time too. We found out that there is a show called Ghost Hunters that came and did a show there. The guide could tell that we were more into the historical aspects of the place... not the ghostly aspects... though it did spark some interesting conversation on our trip home.

So Tammy and Rob headed back to California. It was sad to see them go so soon. But Keith and I have kept busy all weekend as well... We helped our friend Andrea move to New Wilmington. Her new place is rather dreamy. She's renting the downstairs of an old house with mahogany woodwork and hardwood floors. It's really quaint. From there we parted company (K and I). I went to the farm to visit my pony... I missed her SO MUCH!!!! And now I'm house-sitting for a friend for a couple of days. By now K is needing some time away from me anyway.

So that sums up my week of vacation thus far... I'm still off for two more days! Stay tuned for more!

I'm housesitting again. After letting the dogs out for some fun and frolic I headed back homeward to spend some time with my handy hubby. We went shopping at furniture stores. We hit everything from discount to custom made and even looked at a $17000 bedroom set. We were SO out of our league in that store. WOW. We did find a bed on clearance that was very pretty but it was about $150 over our budget. Bummer! Oh well... Well keep looking.

So now I'm chillin with the doggies... Ready to turn in for the night.

The Morning After

I have no idea why I'm up so early. Usually I'm just starting to wake up at 5AM but today I'm wide awake.

I'm feeling the effects of last nights chores. My eyes are swollen. My chest is heavy. My sholders are achy. The scrapes and scratches on my arms are burning.

After I finished at one farm I found another wagon at the next farm. I lost count when I uncovered a snake. It scared the bejeebers out of me. I was working by myself so I was glad it was only a little one. It was only about a foot long, light brown with a dark brown pattern on its back. I'm not sure but it may have been a baby copperhead. I encouraged it off the wagon and then jumped down and snuck up on it for a closer look. Initially I was going to let him slither off into the weeds behind the barn. On second thought... If it was a dangerous snake that's the last thing we need... So I dropped a big rock on it. I'm pretty sure I pinned it but I'm not going to reach under to check. Creepy Crawly Icky Yuck!!!!

I best get moving and drink some coffee. Then its off to work...then the farm...and my Handy Hubby has a softball game tonight. Have a good day everyone.

hay day

Its hay baling time. Tis the season. We did some last week and yesterday and now again today. That's what I'm doing now...waiting on the next wagon to unload. Thankfully the sun is shining but its not too humid and not unbearable as hay-time often is. Its pleasant and breezy. Can't beat that. What's that? Did I hear the baler and tractor stop? The field is done. Here they come... Time to put my work gloves on and get to work. Have a lovely day!

weekend snippets

My HandyHubby's Mom and Step-Dad were in to visit this weekend. We've tackled the weekend festivities rather casualy.

Friday night we went to the barn. Mom and K brushed Penny and spopiled them all. We drank in the beauty of the farm scenery there. It was delightful.

Mom and I spent some quality time shopping. I got 2 birthday gifts. Now they need wrapped.

Last night we went to the Fair. We spent some time looking at the animals. The drafts have to be my favorite! I also especially liked the bunnies. I want one so bad!!! K isn't on board with that idea just yet. Maybe someday? They look so soft and cuddly!
Today we went for a liesurely Sunday drive that took us to thr glass blowing center. The demonstration was fascinating. I've seen it a few times and its still interesting to me. Mom bought herself a pair of earring. They are really neat.
I cooked a few things this weekend. Sweet Ham with cheddar mashed potatoes and green beans... Enchilada casserole... Catalina pasta salad-YUM... And we've had an array of snacks as well.

The visiting will sadly come to an end in the morning, for me anyway. I have to work and they will depart before I'm home.

Tuesday's Stuff

Not much happening. I'm off work tomorrow. Gonna clean house like the president's comin... But its not the president... Its my MIL and her hubby, Jim. Yay!!! Just as important as the president tho. :)

I worked today. Same ol' stuff. My desk is over flowing with work. I'm mentally exhausted. I need a vacation so bad!!! Thank God I have a reason to leave work every evening. Otherwise I'd lose my mind. I am thankful to have gainful employment. I hate to complain but sometimes I just have to vent.

Keith gave his sermon last weekend. I'm very proud of him. He really stepped out of the boat with the courage to speak. All I can say is "God is so faithful." Its awesome!

That's all for now. Gonna rest up. Wish I had an influx of energy now, but I don't.

Speaking of Anniversaries...

As of tomorrow... June 28... my darling Penny will have been home with me for one full year. It's hard to believe. It seemed to go by so fast! I can report that she LOVES being home. She is spoiled so badly! Her sassy attitude is noted by most visitors and her beautiful palomino dapples are so gorgeous this year. I started riding her again late last summer. At first just short trip here and there, but eventually longer more challenging rides. By late fall I was trailering her to beautiful destination rides where the beauty of the season took my breath away. She has become more and more brave all along, and so have I despite the one mishap last fall.

Riding this summer has been a dream. She's way more settled now and seems to enjoy our jaunts. I too am stronger and more confident. Sometimes Keith comes and rides one of the other horses. I'm so grateful to have that resource to share with him. It's been great. We've even gone on a gallop or two... and Keith thinks that is way cool! So riding has been great aside from one more tiny mishap involving a strong trot in a field of high grass where a groundhog caused her to zig when I zagged... oops... I fell down. Thankfully she's not that tall. It buggered up my hand pretty good. The reins literally burned thru my fingers causing a tremendous instant blister. It's all healed now... thankfully. But aside from that I wasn't hurt and neither was she. Imagine that... I've fallen off of her twice... and only twice in her entire life too. Wasn't her fault... stupid groundhog!

So tomorrow is the anniversary of regaining my "Peace of Mind" so to speak. I love her so much and I am very blessed to have been afforded the opportunity to have her again. This was a HUGE answered prayer! Thank the Lord! For he is good!

Saturday's Snippets

Today was a relaxing day... it's welcomed after a long week of work and play. Monday I worked long, hard, and late bringing another month's worth of files to fruition at an evening meeting. Tuesday was the usual... try not to work late and get to the barn on time to do the chores. Wednesday I helped with baling hay at the farm. That's the annual chore that I try not to miss out on. Sure it's hot, dusty, dirty work, but the feeling of accomplishment is welcomed when the barn is full. I also squeezed in a night of chores that evening and caught the end of one of Keith's softball games as well. Thursday and Friday were status quo... work and chores at the farm... Except for the dog at the farm getting sprayed by a skunk. That was an ordeal... but Saturday... oh how I love Saturday. I slept in an extra hour. I did some housework. I even took a nap before I went to my Sister's to use her computer. Most of the time I don't miss not having the computer at home, but today I actually needed it.

Keith is preaching at church tomorrow. I'm not sure if you'd call it preaching or just delivering the message. Either way, he's presenting the words that the Lord has laid on his heart to share with His people. Agreeing to do this was a bold step on his part, but the Pastor obviously thought enough of him to ask and that says a lot. I'm so grateful that K is stepping out of his comfort zone on this. It's something that shocked me. It's one of those things that I know he can do, but just never thought he'd be brave enough to do it. I'm delighted in his obedience. I'm sure that the Lord is too... He'll shine thru him tomorrow.

Anyway... that's the snippets of this past week.

Tomorrow we'll worship with friends and family. Then rest a bit before heading over to my Sister's place for an evening birthday party picnic. That reminds me... I need to ask what to bring. I have had a gift for Joyce tucked away for a while, but I need to stop tonight and pick up something for David.

sweet weekend

I'm staying at the farm this weekend. Its just me and the two ponies, Penny and Dee, and the two dogs, Reilly and Tootsie, and the two cats, Scampers and Scooter, and one extra large spider, Vince, who only has 7 legs... More about Vince another time.

It rained mostly yesterday but today is lovely so far. I'm on the deck soaking up some sunshine, enjoying the breeze, and admiring the view which includes the ponies way down yonder. The birds are singing lively tunes and the humming bird visits nearby often. The flowers are in full bloom all around me.

It is a lovely day to drink in the Lords creation.

birthday boy

Yesterday was my Handy-Hubby's birthday. It was a great day. Slept in slightly. Stopped at Sbux for coffee. Then out to the farm where we cleaned stalls, tried the grazing muzzle on Penny but couldn't bear to leave it on her. We admired her beautiful dark color for a while. She's so pretty. Then we lazed at home for a couple hours before heading to Pittsburgh for the Pirate/Reds game. We won! Wahoo! I even sent a text to the electronic board at the game... "Happy Birthday Ke-Ke Luv, JJ".

Today was relaxing.handy-hubby was working all day. I did laundry and dishes and even took a nap. Spent a few sweet moments with my Honey and then dropped him off in Wexford. He's going to the big city for dinner and drinks with some work pals. They are celebrating a couple bdays. That's not my scene and I don't do crowds so I skipped out but he's cool with that. So... A quiet night it is! Love it.

friday was good

Work stress ugh!

Took Penny on a solo spin around the back woods. Started out sweet and slow. Half way the boogie man started stalking us and she was fired up. None the less we had a nice enough ride. She keeps me on my toes.

thankful thursday

My work has been incredibly stressful lately. To make matters worse my boss has been the victim of some sorely unfortunate circumstances. God bless him and give him the strength to endure.

I'm thankful for my barn-time most evenings. Its where I find my peace of mind. Penny is so precious and so beautifully golden...that paired with her sassy personality just warms my heart.

Tonight we rode for about an hour and a half. My body is adjusting well, getting stronger all the time. I'm doing some daily strengthening exercises at home and I think that's helping. Penny is maturing. She is brave and walks out nicely.

I am so thankful to have her. I'm thankful for Ke and Renee for making sure she found her way back. I thank the Lord for His faithfulness and answering my prayers.

I am counting the blessing of my wonderful Handy-Hubby. We remind ourselves often that God is the center of our marriage. I am blessed to have a spouse who puts my needs before his own. He loves me that much. I am so blessed.

Our home was cluttered. Did no dishes or laundry all week. My excuse... My sweet pony was calling me out to play on all nice days.

Today I cooked cleaned did dishes and laundry. I changed the linens. I cleaned the bird cage.

Handy Hubby upon return from work proclaimed "Honey you busted your hump today.". He noticed. It makes me feel good.

And now I shall enjoy his company.
