Wednesday’s C.O.W. (Coupon of Wisdom)

COW_LOGO

So this last week we studied KINDNESS & GOODNESS in the Fruit of the Spirit study.  I’ve recently had a tug on my heart about GOODNESS in general.  There in lies the birth of “Selfless Sunday.”  We all know that we are NOT saved by works, but by Faith; however, we are not exempt from doing good.  I’ve realized that I’m often so involved in activities that are self-directed.  I am striving to seek out opportunities to be selfless… doing some good for others and being deliberate about it.  In doing so, I am blessed in return.

I come from a family (including extended family) that has exhibited qualities of goodness that are not found among general public.  There is often sharing of chores, families looking out for families in some sort of neighborly love.  When it’s time for my cousin to bale hay, I’m there.  If I need a vehicle, someone will lone one.  If my parent’s need plowed out, a cousin comes.  If my sister is painting, I’m there.  If someone is moving, we come together and help.  It’s just what we do.  My grandfather was often described as a man that would give his last dollar for someone in need… even if he didn’t have a dollar to give.  That is an admirable attitude.

The punch line of this weeks lesson was:  GOODNESS DOESI believe that God expects us to DO good things.  When God created the Earth & its inhabitants he concluded ‘it was good.’  Even the good of the Lord is prefaced with some type of DOING.  We all have the ability to give in some way and I’d like to encourage others to seek out the behaviors of GOODNESS by using whatever gifts or talents or resources that the Lord has blessed you with.

Ephesians 2:10 “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

And that’s my C.O.W. for this week…  if you clipped a coupon of wisdom from your studies or experiences this week, feel free to share in the comments.
