Keeping Up

Oh ya!  5.49 Miles at Hartwood Acres today!!!

I past by a group of people doing yoga as I started out.  What a cool place for it!

Tried out a horse trail that stretches beyond the park.  I couldn't seem to make it loop though.  It emptied out onto someones paved driveway so I back-tracked.  It was a pleasant day to hike.  Not too hot, just a little bit humid, and the bugs weren't that bad.

All in all... keeping on target.  Needed 5 miles this week and surpassed it already.  Yay!

Goal Check

My hiking goal for 2012 is 260 miles.  I'm almost half way.  I need 10 more miles before July 1st to stay on-track.   I chose 260 because it averages 5 miles per week.  Seemingly I could easily attain this goal by walking a mile a day or by jamming in at least a 5 mile trek on the weekend.  Either method would meet the challenge and it has!  I'm right on track!  Yay!!!

Away Week

This past week I wasn't home.  I was definitely out and about though!  I also had a canine friend accompanying me on most of my hikes.

  1. 4.35 Miles at McConnells Mill
  2. 2.28 Miles at the Oneida Valley Dam
  3. 2.21 Miles at Preston Park
  4. 2.03 Miles at the Oneida Valley Dam (south end)
  5. 2.17 Miles at Jennings Environmental Center
That's more than 10 miles! Yay!

Sharing Some Of Today's Beauty

Crossing the creek.  Everything is SO green now.
Perfectly cut trail through the woods.  So peaceful yet bustling with bird in song.
The sky is gorgeous.  The grass is high.
Simple elegance tucked away in the midst of a vast field of tall grass.  Love these!

Don't lose faith... I'm still at it!

I didn't track my progress in May very well.  My Runkeeper app lies.  I've become disgruntled with it, so I've sort of stopped using it.  I did have several really nice hikes in May that I don't have mileage for.   This morning I tried a new app, Skimble.  So far, so good.  It gives me a link that I can post so you can see my hike! This app also tracks a bunch of other activities including horseback riding, canoeing, and more.   So I'm excited to use it and see if it can keep up.  :)

This morning's 5-mile hike was at Hartwood Acres.   I was surprised to only pass by a couple of other hikers on the trails.  The weather is superb!  Sunny, breezy, and about 65 - 70 degrees.  It's not too muddy and not too buggy.  Yay!  The grass in the fields was as high as my chest.  There was single-file width trail through it, but I had to use my trekking poles to push back the grass.  I spotted some daisies... love love love!  I stopped to pet a golden retriever and a chubby beagle.  I startled two beautiful deer.  What a lovely trek.  Perhaps I'll upload some photos.

Anyway... I'm still at it.  I do need new shoes soon.  I thought my trail runners would last longer, but I suppose it just means that they have been well used.  That is a good thing.
