A Few More Miles

On 2/15/12 Janet and I completed a 3 mile hike around the farm. We also hiked just shy of 2 miles the following day, and just shy of 3 the day after that. Three days in a row!

Jill and I hiked the North Country Trail, northwest of the bike rental at Moraine State Park on February 22, 2012.  My Runkeeper was a little fussed up.  We hiked about 7 miles.

Keith joined me for a couple hours of hiking on February 23, 2012.  We hiked almost 6 1/2 miles at McConnells Mills.

My Hubby Says...

Yoga

Yoga (Yo-guh)
noun ( sometimes initial capital letter )
1.
a school of Hindu philosophy advocating and prescribing a course of physical and mental disciplines for attaining liberation from the material world and union of the self with the Supreme Being or ultimate principle.
2.
any of the methods or disciplines prescribed, especially a series of postures and breathing exercises practiced to achieve control of the body and mind, tranquillity, etc.
3.
union of the self with the Supreme Being or ultimate principle.

I realize that I MUST exercise.  I'm learning to try new things as I strive to live a more active lifestyle.  Winter makes it particularly difficult to enjoy exercise.  Some days it is difficult to muster up the energy to exercise after a long day of work followed by an hour of chores and then another hour of driving.  By the time I'm home it's 8PM or later and I still need to make dinner.  That's why I tried yoga.  It's really refreshing to have a physically challenging activity that doesn't seem strenuous.  It's exercise that promotes relaxation.  Sounds like an oxymoron to me!

The practice of yoga is rooted in Hindu spirituality, but I'll have NONE of that.  I simply appreciate the relaxing, stretching, flexibility exercises that are beneficial to the physical body.  It's not a worshipful experience by any means.  I have several DVDs whose instruction has nothing to do with religious matters, nor deep meditation of any kind.  I'll save my meditative exercises for the one true God.  Thank you very much.

What are weekends made of?

This weekend is off to a fabulous start.  I was up early to make coffee for my Hubby.  I helped him pack his lunch and kissed him goodbye three times before he was actually out the door.  Breakfast was delicious!

I hit the trails with two friends at Preston Park which overflowed into Sawmill Run Park trails.  It was snowing big beautiful fluffy snowflakes!  But still, what a lovely hike.  We crossed creeks by bridge and by stepping stone, dodged a great deal of mud, admired unusual texture and colorings in the trees, and spotted some deer who had also spotted us!  We even snagged a geocache along the way.  Yay!

I'm home now, and changed into my warm, comfy, red, flannel jammy-pants.  I put a pot of stew in the crockpot a few hours ago and it smells heavenly!  I've washed the dishes, got the mail, clipped coupons, and washed and folded three loads of laundry.  I just realized that I'm on my last bottle of laundry soap.  I think I haven't bought any for about a year now because I was well stocked after finding a steal of a deal on it.  Hopefully there will be another great deal in the near future.  So here I sit, awaiting the return of my Hubby.  I can't wait to cuddle with him and the kitties and enjoy a hearty dinner that warms the insides.

Tomorrow???  Worship, then hiking at Hartwood Acres with my gal-pal.  It's supposed to be sunny and almost 40 degrees.  Yay!
And that, my friends, is what weekends are made of!

New Favorite

A brown egg+Mom's homemade whole-wheat bread+avocado+coffee = my new favorite breakfast!

YUMMO!!!!

Thanks for the bread Mom!

Goal

I'm setting a goal.  I will hike at least 5 miles per week.  That's only 260 per year or about 22 miles per month.  I'm off to a very good start.
